We thought so. You know how nice it would’ve been if some very cool person (preferably younger than your parents) had come to hang with you even once a week? Maybe help you with homework, work on your reading comprehension or basic math skills, or just play chess or board games, maybe shoot some hoops… and provide ONE moment in your week when you were truly excited to be at school?
If this describes you, and you can manage 42 minutes once a week between 7:10 and 5:00, check out Success in the Middle. There are all kinds of opportunities for engaging in the life of a middle schooler – even some evening and weekend options. The videos posted on the home page and the ‘prospective volunteers’ section give a sense of what the kids are like and what some of the volunteers do with their student(s).
If you can’t spare the time at the moment but would be willing to post a flyer or share info at work or church, please e-mail jwencel@usd259.net and ask her to send one you can post.
